Fire Bowls

The fire bowl is a portable variation on the fire pit theme. However, instead of being sunk in the ground or built from masonry, the fire bowl is a lightweight iron or steel bowl that can easily be moved around.

Fire bowls come in many forms and the big advantages that they have are that they are

Fire bowl features

Fire bowls can be made from cast iron, steel, zinc coated steel etc, and they may be of a solid or a mesh design.

Some fire bowls will fold, collapse, or concertina into themselves to aid carrying and storage. (This tends to be the case with the smaller bowls.)

Most fire bowls will come with a grill or guard to prevent hot wood splinters or coals from escaping from the bowl and, although they are very much a garden feature, they will provide a good amount of heat. Very few of these bowls will double as barbeques.

Gel fire bowls

A recent innovation in the fire bowl product market is the gel burning fire bowl. This product is primarily for display and it produces a real flame, but little in the way of heat and it has no barbequing function.

The gel comes in a replaceable form, very similar to a large “tea light” and the bowl should have a lid for when it is not in use.

Finally, do not be confused when you see fire bowls referred to as fire pits. In essence they are nothing more than a portable prefabricated alternative to a fire pit and the substitution of the word bowl for pit is nothing more than a novel marketing pitch.
